I visited Artist as family for a workshop about community sufficiency and as always comeback reenergised and inspired. Here is the story of people who embrace you, at soul level.
I went on a roadtrip with a Garden Wisdom friend, Karen Pohlner to Daylsford to visit the re-known permaculture family: Meg, Patrick and Woodie. Karen gave me a lift to the mountains and also drove another two gorgeous souls: Arena and Shaylin, plenty of common topics to talk in the way, when headed to Daylesford. My sincere respects for everyone who carpool, is such a great opportunity for others to have access to events and places without having to go everyone in one car each, let's save fossil fuels for the future!.
Arriving there, Megan say hello to each attendee , 20 people coming from different part of Melbourne, some of them Bendigo, Torquay, Coburg, Altona, Moorabbin. To start the workshop, we head to the mistical forest in Djaara Country. Patrick had the fire ready and he welcomed us, to take a sit a circle around the fire.
Meg, Patrick and Woody, welcomed us in the land, and invite us to participate sharing, what reason took us there. The answers where diverse but all connected. "Wanting to know more about self sufficiency", "explore community sufficiency", "Curious about a family- permie lifestyle", "know more about community economy". We listen, and then we eat. We had a great garden tea of wild fennel and great biscuits with backwheat, lots of seeds, honey and blue cornflower petals.
That circle is an experience itself, is a sacred space of active listening, warmth from the fire, but also the coziness of everyone together. It's also, deep connection with the land and with the story of the place. Is a spiritual spring cleaning to recharge our levels of "Radical Hope".
After that, we went for a walk around the forest, place of the Forest school and the program: "Feral and free", previously mentioned in the circle. I absolutely looove it!
The rain caugh us there, and we took refuge under a big tree. Patrick was telling us how, when is raining during Forest School, kids just sat under the tree to watch the rain, to observe everything is happening around them.
Then we comeback for lunch to the house, great biodynamic rice, quinoa, and beautifully fermented food, with beans and sprouts.
The afternoon was a sharing time about how, the local community of 80 people works, and how their are connected to local-small-ethical businesses.
A must to go workshop ! If the permie world is somethings you want to explore!
I invite you to check @ Artist as Family Blog, webpage, podcast, Youtube channel, they have been sharing their knowledge in so many ways and platforms, but nothing compares to see their smile face to face.
I always have the feeling when I comeback, is so many other rhings I can adapt to my life to make it more sustainable, and I can keep implementing that knowledge in my daily life in the way that creates community and serve to my personal life, personal nourishment of body, mind and soul.
Everytime I visit their place it feels a replenishment of energy, a cleanising and reset about what's possible. I am so glad to have them locally, because for me they are Medicine People, thanks Artis as Family for host space for stranger to reset their frustration with the world and set a space to share, how we can build skills to create our own system. They are my Medicine People.
Also I meet amazing humans!
Adrian, Maybe this face looks familiar... yes, Adrian, is an educator at Ceres Brunswick. He highlight from the session, how Artis as family "spoke with intention, knowing the language beyond words. They embody connection with the land trough their actions, what a great way to decolonised our language, because that expression is manifested in the land and goes back to Earth".
Irina, originally from Romania, based from the souther suburbs of Melbourne, she is very active in the alternative education community in the south. Her take away from the session was: "I loved spending the day with like-minded people, it’s been so heartwarming getting a glimpse into their lifestyle, the open sharing, chats and insights into building community, resilience. I was really impressed by Meg’s fermentation bench and got inspired to restart my own fermentation experiments".
Shaylin Rose, is from Altona, and she takes one of her kids, once per week, to the Forest School with Artist as Family. She came to the workshop because, wanted to know more about their lifestyle and how she can make more changes walking towards having a more balance work life. She is Mum of two, work during the week and also she is an artist!, She is a musician, play different instruments, write songs and produce everything by herself!, How inspiring! Check her amazing music in Spotify @Shaylin Rose
Fiz, She recently moved to the country side and is creating new connections in the area, this great local artist, has many things to share! I absolutely loved her journal, that she made herself cutting paper and sowing the pages, and she does great mixed art techniques, translating her learning and thoughts into art.
She also sings, play instruments and create folkie music, know more about her work in Spotify @FiZ and her instagram @fiz_eustance
What an amazing event! Thanks Artist as Family for organising this unique experience, thanks to be our Medicine People and reunite us, to connect with other Medicine People who is making change from their own passions and believes, all for a more connected, sustainable and inspiring world.
Thanks to all who assisted to the event and thanks to the beautiful souls who catches my attention that day! Thanks for be Medicine for the world!.
