Bayside Food Swap September

Sundays are meant to get together, because when we meet and share our produce, feels like we are the farmers market, feels like we are the system. Check our table full of colours and flavours, with organic homegrown food, brought with love and care.

What a great sunday to met all of you, gardeners from Bayside! Was rainy and cold in the morning, great weather to stay cozy at home, and also great weather for gardening and share a cuppa with gardener friends from the area. Thank you all who came and got wet having a look to the garden that was vibrant and colourful with the rain.

We got a table full of goodies, citrus, greenes, herbs, eggs, honey, seedlings, seeds, magazines, and a great social time, with Anise Lemon Myrtle tea prepared by Joanne and vegan seeds-fruit loaf baked by me :).

We had a fantastic time checking the new seeds sow this Saturday and they still in the warm mat with extra light, then we look an umbrella and walk around the garden checking what's growing and how we manage the different seasons, like in winter, time we install a mobile green house; wich have been extremely useful. Now has 30 tomatoes growing from different varieties, and also zucchinis, pumpkin, basil, squashes, now you almost can not walk there, all the space have been taken by the seedlings, soon we will have to add-build some levels, haha.

We also were ask how we manage pests and we all share tips around it. In the picture you can see how strong and healthy are growing our broad beans.

When we were in the tea time I asked what was the topic that catches the most their attention, and some answers were "Everything", other was "The Lemon Tree". Because yes, we have lemons all year around. This 15 year old lemon tree give us medicine 365 days in the year and we always share the love. Ask us for lemons!

We also have eggs, from Meg, Thanks Meg for sharing the love of your chickens! And thanks everyone for make this session so lovely and warm, everyone returned home with a smile and lots of goodies, because when we get together we are the farmers market, sharing the love, sharing the produce.

Karen got this time Red Curry Squash, from the Transition Towns seed library. I remember in my previous project, at RAW Garden, I planted almost all my summer crop, with seeds from this library and they got a extremely successful season. Thanks Joanne for taking care of this library and keep the local seeds in our area available for the community. Everyone can contribute with their own seeds, so I highly encourage you to come and share the. next food swap with us and bring some seeds to exchange o donate.

This is the garden looking incredible today, with all this rain. On side you can see the new addition of 6 large potato bags, as transition of our work in the garden, adding some more space to keep growing edibles, while the brassicas keep giving us food.

Let's keep gardening and getting together to change the world,

because we are our own Farmers Market, we are the system!

Lot's of love,

Ninna Mar
